I was just having a look at Indian Outlaws new discussion board http://indianoutlaws.freeforums.net/
Apparently, it is offline now; there is only the following message displayed:
“In accordance with Section 25(a) of the ProBoards Terms of Service, this forum has been taken offline.”
25(a) of the Terms of Service just says the following:
- TERMINATION
(a) By ProBoards
WITHOUT LIMITING ANY OTHER PROVISION OF THIS AGREEMENT, PROBOARDS RESERVES THE RIGHT TO, IN PROBOARDS’ SOLE DISCRETION AND WITHOUT NOTICE OR LIABILITY, DENY USE OF THE WEBSITE AND/OR SERVICES TO ANY PERSON FOR ANY REASON OR FOR NO REASON AT ALL, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION FOR ANY BREACH OR SUSPECTED BREACH OF ANY REPRESENTATION, WARRANTY OR COVENANT CONTAINED IN THIS AGREEMENT, OR OF ANY APPLICABLE LAW OR REGULATION.
Now I am a bit worried, can something like this happen to this board here as well?
I saw that earlier. That really sucks. I was actually working on a page that I was going to put on the site that linked to the forum, as well as a few other sites that host this kind of content.
I understand your concerns regarding this site. To be completely honest, when I saw IO’s forum go poof, I went back to my terms of service agreement with the webhost to re-read it and totally make sure this content is in the clear. I’m happy to say that it is. The webhost for this site allows erotic and pornographic content.
The proboards terms of service (the site software that IO was using) explicitly did not allow pornographic or sexual content.
When I set out to create this site, I specifically searched for a webhost that was adult-content friendly. I knew I couldn’t rely on a free third party platform because they could go out of business at any time (like discboards) or say they didn’t want adult content on their platform and remove your site (like proboards).
So I researched for a few days until I found a host that explicitly said (and advertised) that they were adult friendly. In fact, they advertise as being the #1 adult hosting service.
I have no grand illusion that they are #1 (I have no idea what being the best adult hosting service would even mean), but I only mention that to show that at least some of their business is geared towards content that is considered “adults only”, so they shouldn’t be offended by stories about people running around naked.
That said, this scare does solidify in my mind that I won’t be allowing user uploaded images to be hosted on this site. In fact, I won’t host any images myself unless I’ve been given the permission to post it or I have the copyright.
You can link to an image by posting the link, or embed images/gifs in the comment section (since they are hosted on the image hosting site, such as imgur) but you won’t be allowed to directly post the image to the site. Less chance of violating a term of service and it cuts down on bandwidth and space resources, so it will keep costs down.
I’ll be posting an official rules and guidelines page in the near future.
I’m going to also look into trying to build my own server at some point, just for an added level of protection, so we don’t rely at all on another service provider. But that is a little down the line. So far, I’m happy with the host we have.
I hope this provides a little peace of mind for those concerned about this site vanishing without notice. I’m taking steps to make sure that won’t happen.
Thank you very much for all the effort you put in the creation and maintenance of this website!
I am really very grateful to be able to follow all the great stories here.
Yesterday I made a big post on IO’s new site talking about community and how we should all be one big happy family, survivors of the big shakeup. Along with LOTS of words about this site here and a link.
I’m worried about our community now. I was hoping that IO would help with the traffic here. Without his popular location, it’s hard to collect people to branch out to. But then he was suffering recently with very bad SEO on his new site. I couldn’t find his new site by googling. What is needed to capture that traffic looking for stories is a solid web page that has all of his old words on it. Or at least – “The ASN Story Board” and “IndianOutlaws Stripping Storyboard” Plus all of our favorite acronyms and some popular links to old existing sites.
I don’t know if IO’s going to come back with a new board or not, but if he does he’s probably going to need a site like this one to help link to his new site.
Just some thoughts.
Thanks for sharing all that Kinsey. It’s awesome to have an admin with some technical experience.
Based on what she just posted, I feel this site is VERY SAFE and am not worried at all. She has backups and if her porno host became a problem then she could just find another host. Remember, Kinsey MADE this site. It’s hers. She’s not using a free online forum from someone else. Plus, as she said, she could always just run a server from a computer in her home if hosts became an issue.
We are in good hands here!
Any word about IO coming back online at his new site or another location.
It probably won’t be back at proboards. They don’t allow erotic content on their forums.
I hope he sets up another one somewhere soon.
I sent IO an email suggesting he try using what another erotica storyboard is currently using. https://www.phpbb.com/
Although, I don’t know if that new host would be any safer.
He didn’t reply.
Indian Outlaw did finally reply to an email that I had sent him suggesting that he try another forum.
“Thank You, will look into it.”
I use phpbb, but it needs a webhost. I humbly suggest nearlyfreespeech.net. I’ve used it for a decade for a few sites (including a comics translation team that does ENF comics from Japan).
Good advice KiTA. I hope IO finds his way back again. For all we know, he may already have a new site but nobody can find it.
I was unable to find his last new location via google. So it could be the same again. If you search for his site nothing is found. This thread comes up, so SEO is working fine here.
