In the future, all questions and bug reporting will be handled through email. But for the launch of the site, I want a very visible and accessible way for this communication to occur.
So if something is broken or you click a link and your computer yells at you, please let me know. Post any site suggestions, bug reporting, feedback or question. I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.
Perhaps turn off javascript so that spammers can’t auto popup ads. Also, if possible, maybe consider holding back (for review) any comment that contains a link.
It’s been pretty good with spammers so far. Only one got through.
I just changed the setting so that any comment with a link will now require approval. If any spam still gets through after that I think I’ll make it so that you have to be registered in order to comment. I’ve been trying to hold back on that because I know one of the reasons people liked the ASN board was that you could post without necessarily signing up for anything.
That was a quick response.
Yeah, I also hope that we can stay anonymous friendly.
I wonder if there are smart plugins that look for keywords and if it senses 2 or three of them then it also flags the comment to require approval. I am very far removed from the web world so I wouldn’t know.
Yeah there are all kinds of plugins. I tried a few during my initial tests but for some reason many of my comments from my alt test accounts kept being flagged and needed to be approved before they appeared on the site. I don’t want to have to check the site dozens of times a day to review the comment queue and I think it can impede the flow of conversation for comments to not appear immediately, so I uninstalled the plugins to see how the default anti-spam system would work.
Worked well for about a month but I may have to just revisit the issue.
That makes sense. What you have now is probably fine. It was only one ad and it may have been manually placed.
I thought. Oh, a comment on my story! But tapping on it launched me out of the site.
I like the recent stories section and how it’s on top of the comments now. Good move.
